Our Mission

Toddlers in Motion has been enriching the lives of children and their parents and caregivers for over 20 years. Dedicated to nurturing each child’s imagination and unique talents, Toddlers in Motion approaches learning as an adventure to be shared and enjoyed.

Moving and learning are inseparably linked in a young child’s life, and within each carefully planned lesson at Toddlers in Motion, there’s plenty of room for discovery and spontaneity. In the words of Director Jan McKee, “We take our lead from the children.” Our movement classes provide the opportunity for exploring the many ways to move while affirming that each child’s individual style is special and important.

The Art Shop offers hands-on experience to discover the world of color, shape, and texture in a stimulating environment where getting messy is part of the fun and doing things your own way is encouraged. At Toddlers in Motion we believe that active engagement of the visual imagination and a variety of tactile stimulations are important elements in the development of healthy young minds.

Separating from the secure hand of a parent or caregiver can be an awkward or even anxious experience. The popular Stepping Stones program offers children the opportunity to take their first steps toward independence in a reassuring and unpressured classroom setting that nurtures their desire to interact on their own.

The much loved Fred Rogers once said, “When we treat children’s play as seriously as it deserves, we are helping ourselves stay in touch with that spirit, too. The things we play with and the people who help us play make a great difference in our lives.” It is in this spirit of play that we hope to make a positive difference in the lives of our children by engaging their imaginations and awakening the notion that learning is great fun.

Over the years, Toddlers in Motion has expanded to two locations, in Montclair and Rutherford. And it has grown up along with its students, now offering two new classes for the older set: three to five years old.
